Fruits of Dark Alchemy
Lord Leech has led you to the Gnarlwood, a place ripe with his bountiful blessings. Harvest the flesh of your enemies, and combine it with the foulest reagents found within this forest to brew vile concoctions with which to further your patron's work.
Pick 1 artefact of power from the Fruits of Dark Alchemy table (see below) and note it in your quest log. You cannot pick an artefact of power already borne by a fighter in your warband.
While embarked upon this quest, you must keep track of the progress your warband makes, represented by a progress score. Add 1 to your progress score each time a fighter in your warband uses the 'Gruesome Harvest' ability, and in step 4 of each campaign battle's aftermath sequence, add 2 to your progress score if you won the battle. In addition, you can pick 1 fighter from your warband and send them forth to search for the artefact. To do so, roll a dice and add the score rolled to your progress score. In addition, on a 1, the fighter being rolled for is attacked by something within the Gnarlwood. Make an injury roll for that fighter.
You can complete this quest once your progress score is 10 or more. When you complete this quest, you obtain the artefact of power that was noted in your quest log.

The Seeping Mask The stinking yellowish sap that streams from the eye sockets of this mask can be slathered onto wounds to quickly seal and anaesthetise them. Each time the bearer activates, you can remove D3 damage points allocated to them (including when they are activated for a second time after waiting). |
Thrice-blessed Blade Pockmarked with rust that forms strange sigils, this weapon has patently been blessed by Lord Leech. Add 1 to the Strength characteristic of melee attack actions made by the bearer. In addition, add 1 to the damage points allocated by each critical hit from melee attack actions made by the bearer. |
Vial of Red-rot Filled with a sepia liquid that bubbles and hisses, each time this vial is emptied, its contents miraculously reappear come the next dawn. Once per battle, the bearer can use this artefact as a bonus action. If they do so, pick a visible enemy fighter within 3" of them and roll a dice. On a 2+, allocate a number of damage points to that fighter equal to the roll. |
Cloak of Mire-mist Plumes of thick fog emanate from this mantle, masking the wearer from sight. The bearer is not visible to enemy fighters more than 6" from them. |
Icon of the Fly This token of the Bringers of Pestilence is more than just a simple charm. Add 1 to the value of abilities used by the bearer (to a maximum of 6). In addition, add 1 to the Toughness characteristic of the bearer. |
Staff of the Rotmire Although its rotten bark is infested with burrowing maggots, this staff should not be mistaken as brittle. It will guide its bearer through any swamp, and it bestows upon them great hardiness. Add 1 to the Move and Toughness characteristics of the bearer. |
Lord Leech's Blessings
Witherlords are master alchemists who seek to study their foul god's taint upon the realms and reap his many blessings.
Pick a Witherlord in your warband that can gain a heroic trait and note them in your quest log. See page 104 of the Core Book to find out how fighters can gain a heroic trait.
While embarked upon this quest, in step 4 of a campaign battle's aftermath sequence, you can complete this quest if an enemy fighter was taken down in that battle by the Witherlord you picked using the 'Lethal Injection' ability.
When you complete this quest, you can give that Witherlord one of the heroic traits from the Creed Heroic Traits below.

---|
Festerous Stench A foetid smell clings to this warrior, one so repellent that it makes their enemies retch and choke as they close in. Subtract 1 from the Attacks characteristics of melee attack actions made by enemy fighters (to a minimum of 1) while they are within 1" of this fighter. |
Leeches o' Lurgy Pulsating leeches of sickly aspect feed upon the rotten blood of this Witherlord, expelling a vile miasma that poisons nearby enemies. Each time this fighter finishes their activation (including when they begin waiting), roll a dice for each visible enemy fighter within 3" of them. On a 3+, allocate D3 damage points to that fighter. |
Mucoid Wings Oily, membranous wings folded beneath the robes of this warrior allow them a short burst of flight in battle. Once per battle, this fighter can use this heroic trait to make a bonus move action and they can fly when they do so. |
Bilespurter Lord Leech's blessings have taken a hold of every artery and vein that runs through this warrior. Woe betide those enemies standing close to them should the turgid vessels be ruptured. When this fighter makes the 'Bile Blood' reaction, roll 3 dice instead of 1 for each critical hit scored from the attack action. |
Master Alchemist The toxins kept within this Witherlord's syringe are particularly deadly. When this fighter uses the 'Lethal Injection' ability, roll 1 extra dice. |
Grim Harvester As this warrior reaps the gory spoils of fallen foes, they feel themselves being invigorated by their beneficent god. When this fighter uses the 'Gruesome Harvest' ability, you can remove D6 damage points allocated to them. |
The Putrid Transformation
Lord Leech's work would see you corrupt the land of the Gnarlwood, poisoning its soil until all that grows there becomes a putrid vector of disease. Slay your enemies, and with the remains of their rotting corpses fashion a monolith in your god's image to bring his influence to this land.
While embarked upon this quest, you must keep track of the corpses harvested by your warband with a harvest score. Add 1 to your harvest score each time a fighter in your warband uses the 'Gruesome Harvest' ability in a campaign battle.
While your harvest score totals 7 or more, you can fight battles using the 'Site of Corruption' quest battleplan. If you do so and you win the battle, in step 4 of the aftermath sequence, you can complete this quest. If you do so, in step 5, you can relocate your warband's encampment to a 'Grotesque Totem' (see below) and do not need to spend any glory to do so.
Quest Battleplan: Bleak Offerings
Your idol is almost complete, but your enemies close in on all sides, threatening to see everything you have strived for undone. Fortunately, the flesh of these fools would be ideal for consecrating the totem. Strike them down and turn this land into the realm of Lord Leech.
Attacker and Defender
In this battle, the questing player is the defender and the adversary player is the attacker.
Terrain
Set up terrain as normal.
Deployment
Use the deployment map below. The defender is red and the attacker is blue.
Victory
Before the battle, the defender places 1 objective token within 3" horizontally of the centre of the battlefield: this is the idol.
At the end of each battle round, if the defender controls the idol, they score 1 victory point. In addition, they score 1 victory point each time a fighter from their watband uses the 'Gruesome Harvest' ability. At the end of each battle round, if the attacker controls the idol, they score a number of victory points equal to the number of the current battle round. Each player scores 1 victory point each time an enemy player is taken down.
The battle ends after 4 battle rounds. At the end of the battle, the player with the most victory points wins. If the score is tied, the defender wins.
Twist
Determine a twist as normal.
The Aftermath Sequence
The adversary player receives the following bonus in the aftermath sequence:
Renown to be Earned: The adversary player adds 1 to each renown roll they make in this aftermath sequence.
Encampment Location: Grotesque Totem
Location | Location Bonus | Points Limit | Reputation Modifier |
---|---|---|---|
Grotesque Totem Within a dank hollow in the Gnarlwood, you have erected and consecrated an idol in honour of Lord Leech. You will be able to harvest many fine ingredients from the fluids that miraculously seep from its reeking crannies. | Add 1 to renown rolls you make for fighters from your warband with the Hero runemark (). In addition, in step 5 of the aftermath sequence, you can pick 1 fighter from your warband and send them forth to reap the spoils. To do so, roll on the table below. | 1150 | +3 |
Rotmire Creed Lesser Artefacts
D66 | Result |
---|---|
11-16 | Return Empty-handed Your warrior returns with nothing of worth. This result has no effect. |
21-26 | Meagre Pickings Your warrior returns with minor spoils that can be sold or bartered for materials. [Reward] You receive D6 glory. |
31-33 | Rotten Familiar From bloated swamp-toads to mangy felines and even lesser daemons, the familiars favoured by Lord Leech come in many forms and have myriad applications. [Perishable] Add 1 to the value of abilities used by the bearer (to a maximum of 6). |
34-36 | Glimmering Stolen from those Excelsians foolish enough to venture into the Rotmire, this mystic shard offers prophetic glimpses of the future. [Consumable] The bearer can use this lesser artefact as a bonus action. If they do so, until the end of their activation, add 1 to the Attacks and Strength characteristics of melee attack actions made by them. |
41-43 | Death's Head Fashioned from the hollowed-out head of a foe filled with effluvia from around the totem and sealed with a mixture of wax, blood and pus, this morbid artefact can be hurled at the enemy, bursting on impact and showering them with its noxious contents. [Consumable] The bearer can use this lesser artefact as a bonus action. If they do so, pick a visible enemy tighter within 6" of them and roll a dice. On a 2+, allocate D3 damage points to that fighter and subtract 1 from their Toughness characteristic until the end of the battle (to a minimum of 1). |
44-46 | Skull Of Flies A horned, cyclopean skull rises out of the murky depths. In battle, bloated flies stream from its singular eye socket, swarming protectively around the bearer. [Perishable] Subtract 1 from the Attacks characteristic (to a minimum of 1) of attack actions that target the bearer. |
51-53 | Tears Of The Leech This extremely sticky and highly lethal secretion weeps from the eyes of your idol. It hardens nicely over a camp fire, making it ideal for coating blowpipe darts. [Perishable] Only a fighter with the Rotmire Creed runemark () and the Scout runemark () can bear this artefact. When the bearer uses the 'Blowpipe' ability, roll 3 dice instead of 2. |
54-56 | Rackwood Seeds When scattered around your encampment's perimeter, these thin, black seeds rapidly sprout into a natural barricade bristling with toxin-producing thorns that bring swift and agonising death to trespassers. [Reward] If your encampment is threatened, it is now secure. If your encampment is already secure, you do not have to make an encampment check this aftermath sequence. |
61-62 | Blight-Tick Slime Crawling out of the totem's navel comes a fist-sized tick bearing a tri-lobed marking on its back. With its blank stare, it seems to implore you to squish it and rub the contents of its swollen body on your weapon... [Perishable] Add 1 to the damage points allocated by each hit and critical hit from melee attack actions made by the bearer. |
63-64 | Gripe Gourd Tasting like a cross between frogskin and rotting fish, this ugly fruit was picked near the idol. One bite sees the eater's flesh swell and renders them nigh immune to pain, aside from the occasional stomach complaint. [Perishable] Add 3 to the Wounds characteristic of the bearer. |
65-66 | Gift From Lord Leech Something intriguing can be spied bobbing amid the spume gathering around the base of the idol. Scoop it out, and see what delights Lord Leech has sent you! [Reward] Pick 1 artefact of power from the Fruits of Dark Alchemy table. |
